World Mining Congress 2023 - Shaping the Industry
Challenge
Creative Hire and ICMS Australasia joined forces to deliver the 26th World Mining Congress (WMC) in 2023, marking Australia’s debut as the host country.
With the last in-person WMC held in 2018, the event took on added significance due to the pandemic’s disruption. Given the industry’s need for global information exchange, industry dialogue and innovative partnerships, the successful execution of this year’s congress was crucial
Creative Hire was presented the challenge of designing and constructing the WMC’s seven key feature areas that would be
central in delivering the event’s key objectives. This included the striking entrance features, Gerard Daniels Business Lounge, Diamond Meeting Rooms, Central Networking feature, Speakers and Media Lounges.

Solution
Creative Hire’s renowned expertise and meticulous attention to detail were pivotal in delivering the seven feature areas for the 26th World Mining Congress. Outside each hall, two 9m box wall entrance features
were thoughtfully designed to display maps and event branding, ensuring a welcoming and seamless entry experience for attendees.
Creative Hire’s concept for the 12x9m Gerard Daniels Business Lounge was to replicate the sophisticated ambiance of an airport business lounge. The inviting space featured a custom-made BeMatrix coffee cart with acrylic 3D signage that served as a valuable asset toward achieving the networking objectives of the congress. The lounge showcased an elegant style with greenery, panelling, and plush furniture used to define the space as six separate meeting zones and a focal meeting area.
A series of ten Diamond Meeting Rooms, each measuring 9×9 metres, were constructed using our Eclipse walling, complete with entrance and back-of-house catering areas. These rooms incorporated four counter cupboards, screens and co-branded digital prints, complemented by vibrant greenery to create a realxed atmosphere for meetings.
Strategically positioned throughout the venue, the Charge Bars were an indispensable service for attendees. The units featured show branding, with two exclusively dedicated to WMC and two cobranded with by key sponsor, Noble.
At the heart of the congress, a central networking space embraced the Outback Australiana theme. A towering 4.5-metre-high tree was the focal point, complemented by two 4-metre-high elm trees. Creative Hire’s attention to detail was evident in the custom-made corrugated iron panels and earth toned broadloom carpet that seamlessly completed the theme. Strategically placed rattan ottomans invited networking and the addition of artificial turf, rocks, plants and uplighting enhanced the overall ambiance.
Both the Media Lounge and Speakers Lounge shared a similar design approach, featuring raised timber flooring, boxed BeMatrix storage areas, timber panels, screens and striking graphics. The cohesive design of the lounges ensured they were tailored to the needs of speakers and presenters and easily identifiable. Additionally, Creative Hire utilised feature carpeting and a slab counter to complete the 6x9m Media Lounge, presenting an ideal environment for media operations.
